L’Iniziativa è nata dalla volontà di Don Giacomo Minervino di riunire i collaboratori per un momento di formazione spirituale, trasformatasi in un pellegrinaggio, ha dato l’opportunità a tutti i membri della comunità di beneficiare di questo percorso di devozione, ricerca spirituale o penitenza verso luoghi sacri dell’Umbria.
Con questi propositi un nutrito gruppo costituito da componenti della comunità acquappesana, con rappresentanze delle Parrocchie di Cosenza, Paola, Guardia Piemontese e Cetraro, intraprende questo viaggio verso questi posti immersi in un tessuto intriso di storia, arte, natura incontaminata, cultura e tradizioni.
Città, castelli, villaggi, cinte murarie, rocche, torri, chiese, monasteri, chiostri, palazzi sono le presenze più significative di questa terra ricca di eccellenze enogastronomiche ed agroalimentari, dove sono vissuti o hanno lasciato tracce santi e poeti, scrittori e pittori insigni.
Un esempio efficace sono i centri di turismo religioso di Cascia e Assisi che legano il loro nome rispettivamente a S. Rita e a San Francesco e per questo evocano un profondo ascetismo.
Al centro Foligno, la città dei Trinci, col suo vanto di aver dato al mondo la prima edizione stampata della Divina Commedia. Opera uscita nell’aprile del 1472 dal palazzetto Orfini, elegante esempio di architettura rinascimentale.
Nella zona più montuosa dell’Umbria, Cascia, che il gruppo raggiunge all’indomani del suo arrivo. D’obbligo la visita del Monastero delle Suore Agostiniane di Santa Maria Maddalena, luoghi che raccontano il vissuto della Santa nonché i momenti più significativi che ha trascorso all’interno del luogo sacro. Con la partecipazione in Basilica alla celebrazione Eucaristica si conclude la mattinata casciana. Il pomeriggio è dedicato alla visita di Foligno. Ad attenderli Giuseppe Lio, medico in pensione di padre cosentino ma folignate di adozione, che con grande passionalità e trasporto guida la comitiva alla scoperta delle principali attrattive della cittadina. Dipinti, sculture, edifici religiosi e inoltre la Chiesa ed il convento dedicati a San Francesco, al cui interno è conservato il corpo della Beata Angela da Foligno; il viaggio culmina con la visita alla millenaria Abbazia Benedettina di Santa Croce in Sassovino. Il Monastero, circondato da olivi secolari, conserva al suo interno uno splendido chiostro romanico in marmo rosa guarnito da fregi a mosaico.
Il giorno successivo la meta è Assisi. Come da programma, visita della Basilica Superiore, costruzione in stile gotico che conserva le decorazioni ad affresco di Cimabue e di Giotto, e della Basilica inferiore, dove è custodita la monumentale cripta destinata alla venerazione delle reliquie del Santo. Ai lati della tomba due lampade sorrette da formelle realizzate in ferro battuto dal maestro Osvaldo Iorio di Paola, ricordano il gemellaggio con la città di Paola. Molto partecipata la S. Messa celebrata nella Basilica Inferiore. L’affiatamento dei partecipanti, sostenuti dal sacerdote, ha favorito momenti molto intensi di preghiera. Oltre a nutrire l’anima la visita di questi luoghi ha fatto assaporare alla comitiva la magnificenza di opere di grande spessore storico, artistico e culturale. Il valore aggiunto di questi incontri spirituali è rappresentato dalla concelebrazione di Don Giacomo alle funzioni religiose: ciò suscita un’emozione, se possibile, ancora più forte in questo cammino di riflessione e conversione.
Scendendo da Assisi la compagnia fa tappa alla rinascimentale Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli, che protegge ed ingloba l’antica cappella campestre della Porziuncola. Il sito, scelto come dimora di San Francesco che vi ha concluso la sua vita terrena, rappresenta uno dei luoghi più suggestivi del francescanesimo. Punto di riferimento di tutta la vita di Francesco e della sua fraternità e teatro della promessa straordinaria, fatta da Cristo e dalla Vergine, che quanti si fossero recati a pregare nella Porziuncola avrebbero ottenuto la completa remissione delle loro colpe. Il luogo è particolarmente caro agli acquappesani che il 2 agosto, in occasione dei festeggiamenti della Madonna degli Angeli, rievocano il ricordo del perdono di Assisi lucrando l’indulgenza ottenuta da San Francesco.
Sulla via del ritorno, su suggerimento di Giuseppe, sosta alle Fonti del Clitunno: gioiello naturalistico di incomparabile splendore e di notevole interesse idrogeologico, situato nel comune di Campello ad un’altezza di 220 s.l.m. e del quale il poeta Giosuè Carducci ne cantò la storia e la bellezza. Agli occhi dei visitatori si presenta come un piccolo scenario di colori e di luci ma, grandioso per l’incredibile fusione di tanti elementi della natura che creano intensissimi colori dai riflessi eccezionali. Una ricca e lussureggiante vegetazione, costituita in prevalenza da pioppi e da salici piangenti, si specchia in un laghetto le cui limpidissime acque, provenienti da sorgenti di tracimazione, pullulano dal fondo.
